Starting with the purchase of his first hive in 1940, Ron Walters established Walters Apiary. Expanding through 1946, Ron started moving to become a commercial beekeeper, keeping 50 hives by the late 1940’s.
Over the next 25 years Ron continued to keep bees and sell honey in the Bothwell area. In mid 1970’s Ron reduced the number of hives kept, and his son Ed Walters joined in to continue to manage the hives together as a hobby until Ron passed away in 2013.
Walters Apiary continues to be a family owned bee farm managed by Ed and Adam along with help from their family. Ivan, 4th generation, is showing an interest in beekeeping as well.
The family makes use of new technology and techniques while maintaining the love of the hobby that their Father / Grandfather / Great Grandfather, Ron had Since 1940.
The bees, all packed up for the winter. Wrapped in tar paper to block the wind and provide some solar heat.
